Established in 2006, with the help of our fantastic LGBTQ+ community and local volunteers, Blackpool Pride has grown from strength to strength.
During 2020/2021 when all events were cancelled, our committee recognised the importance of Pride to the community and our Virtual Pride was born.
Streaming live from the iconic Blackpool Illuminations Depot in 2021, our Virtual Pride was viewed by over 100k people with outstanding feedback, this proved to be an incredible success, raising over £3500 for the local charity, Renaissance.
The Virtual Pride was a perfect way to announce the news of our plans to launch a Winter Pride Festival.
Winter Pride was a great success and the feedback was incredible. Getting the community together again after lockdown and giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy a live festival again.
2023 Pride was held in the iconic Blackpool Winter Gardens. This attracted over 3000 people for 8 hours of back-to-back music and entertainment.
Alongside this we also have the Pride Parade along the world famous Blackpool Promenade, which continues to grow, year on year and was the biggest ever in 2023.
It saw over 50 organisations including all emergency services, LGBTQ+ youth groups, Blackpool FC, Blackpool Scouts, Co-op and Sainsbury’s, 1500 walkers and hundreds of spectators join us to walk the parade as a celebration of diversity and inclusion in the town.
Our Summer Blackpool Pride Festival 2024 is set to be held on the brand new Talbot Gateway project in the heart of Blackpool’s LGBTQ+ community.
Pride Blackpool is welcomed and supported by Blackpool Council each year.
The committee consists of professional people from all walks of life, including community members, business owners and charity leaders.
We currently have 15k+ Facebook followers and 1800 Instagram followers with a monthly reach of over 50k.
Throughout the year local businesses, venues and charities work with Pride to hold awareness raising and fundraising fringe events.
This year will see a particular focus on Arts & Culture, embracing our partnerships with theatre groups, art galleries, cinemas and other offerings to create a programme of events for everyone.
We are extremely proud to have a dedicated youth-led section of pride. Our team of young people are heavily involved in designing their own activities and entertainment, which runs alongside our main pride events.
This creates a safe space for young people to explore, ask questions and learn, helping them to be more confident and comfortable to be themselves.
Winter Pride 2021 saw Blackpool’s very first Youth Pride; a variety of amazing activities and events especially for young people, children and families, sponsored by City Fibre.
The Army brought in their obstacle courses and mind games. MamaG (from BGT) hosted a family story-time area.
Face painting, glitter art, a giant game of operation and many more arts and crafts were available to the young people as well as specialist organisations offering advice and support.
Entertainment was provided by local youth bands and performing arts groups.
Summer 2022 Youth Pride was the pinnacle of celebrating Pride with our young people and their friends and families.
Our youth group opened the Main Stage at Pride with a fantastic performance by South Shore Academy students and the Equality Group. Alongside this, the youth pride led the huge Pride Parade along the promenade. We even had her majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II support us on the day!
Jake Daniels from Blackpool FC sent a special message and his mum, Jane, spoke on the main stage about the importance of why we need to support young LGBTQ+ people.
Youth Pride continued to grow and evolve in 2023 at the Winter Gardens, taking over their own areas for both the Winter and Summer events, with over 25 organisations and 250 young people taking part.
Young people and families enjoyed a variety of activities whilst also listening to the live acts and having a wonderful day!
We are thrilled that over 400 young people were able to access Blackpool Youth Pride free of charge.
It is no great surprise that the number of major brands participating in Pride events has been rising rapidly over recent years. But why?
Of course, backing the LGBTQ+ community is the right thing to do, but companies are going to make decisions with their bottom line in mind.
However, profit and sponsorship are not in competition with one another, but rather go hand in hand. Below are some important facts that brands involved in Pride should be aware of.
The LGBTQ+ community are arguably the most brand-loyal customers. 76% say they are more likely to buy from a brand that they see as LGBTQ+ friendly. In addition, the community also has a powerful voice when it comes to boycotting brands they see as unfriendly.
The LGBTQ+ community is often in a position to spend more money. Gay male couples make on average 55% more money than straight couples. LGBTQ+ couples are also less likely to have children. These factors leave more disposable income.
Sponsoring Pride is a great way to attract LGBTQ+ consumers to your business. It can also boost morale within your company. Pride sponsorship is an easy way to let LGBTQ+ employees know that they are valued members of the workplace.
It’s all about inclusivity rather than exclusivity. Pride events are a safe space where everybody is welcome and our allies are a vital part of that. It’s not just LGBTQ+ members that will get exposure to your brand but a wider network of people from the local area and further-afield.
We hope this information has encouraged you to get involved in sponsoring Blackpool Pride.
Without the help of our sponsors, these events simply wouldn’t happen.
There are lots of other sponsorship opportunities available.
For example, you could help with hospitality/accommodation for our performing artists.
If you have an idea, we would love to hear it.
